Project · Travel guide & route planner
Roavina
A worldwide travel guide whose day-by-day routes are planned by an algorithm, not by hand.

The brief
Roavina organises the world in four levels — country, city, district, place — and plans the days for you. It had to do that in eleven languages, be found on search from the start and work without depending on ads.

The approach
Places come from OpenStreetMap, Wikidata and Wikivoyage and live in PostgreSQL with PostGIS. A deterministic planner orders each day by real travel time, calculated on Roavina’s own OSRM routing server: the same inputs always give the same plan.
Pages are rendered on the server with Blade, with Alpine for interaction, so every level of the hierarchy is a fast page that search engines can index.
